Exemplary Employers
Valero Energy Corporation
Valero Energy Corporation shows its commitment to the well-being of its employees from the moment they are hired. Every new employee at the St. Charles Refinery in Louisiana is required to not only go through safety and job training but also financial education training. As a company that has ranked as the number one “Best Big Company to Work For” by Fortune magazine, Valero secures its status as an exemplary employer in part through its ongoing financial education offering.
In addition to the programs offered to its new hires, Valero offers ongoing comprehensive financial education workshops for the balance of the employee population at its St. Charles Refinery. Valero began implementing financial education in 2007 at its Norco, Louisiana location with Director of Human Resources Ron Guillory championing the program.
The financial education program at Valero includes two live workshops: Money ConceptsTM and Money Basics®. Money ConceptsTM helps employees with basic financial planning topics, including budgeting, debt management and retirement planning. For those who want to learn the basics plus more advanced financial planning, Money Basics® goes into more detail on insurance, investments, and estate planning. These workshops are held both during and after work hours. Valero encourages employees’ spouses to attend. Valero plans to introduce Retiring Easy® in the near future to address the questions and concerns of those who are approaching retirement.
Valero, the largest energy refiner and one of the largest retailers in North America, is based in San Antonio, Texas. The company employs approximately 20,000 employees in a number of locations throughout the United States, one in Canada and one in Aruba. Valero has approximately 5,800 retail and wholesale sites, as well.
